It’s great. Super comfy. Only wish there was a way to scrunch it up more. Don’t care though. Super happy.

This is not a good product. The base camp mattress by the same company is a high quality product, however the pillow does not expand and provides only a tiny amount of lumpy padding. A small rolled towel would be better as a pillow than this product.

it is not stuffed with like anything it is almost completely limp after it is unrolled, not even close to the fullness indicated by the picture. over all i think it was misleading

Over the past few years, I’ve traveled over a quarter million miles by plane, and countless additional miles by bus and train. This pillow has been my faithful and much appreciated companion for most of those miles.
Sure, inflatable pillows are more portable. But they also remind me painfully of some comedy skit… putting your head on one side and VOOM, the pillow splooshes out from under you in the other direction, etc. I’ve never ever found a comfortable inflatable pillow, and goodness knows I’ve tried a bunch.
This pillow, in contrast, is so comfortable that I’ve actually used it in place of or augmenting some not-so-comfy hotel pillows. It’s stuffed with pieces of what I think are foam, and it compresses just enough to be comfortable and supportive at the same time.
Since I always try to compress this pillow pretty tightly before sticking it in my backpack, I have worried a bit that the drawstring would break or the fabric around it would tear, but that hasn’t happened thankfully so it’s clearly pretty strong. I’ve also run this through the washer and (low-setting) dryer and it came out good-as-new.
My only nitpicks: The hard plastic widget in the drawstring can be unpleasant when accidentally leaned against, but that’s easily fixed by flipping the pillow onto the other side. And also, the pillow doesn’t compress *that* much (maybe to a third its full size?). But these don’t bother me enough to merit removal of a rating star.
Get this pillow. Heck, maybe get two! You’ll be glad you did :-)

One of those items often forgotten when camping is a pillow. After all, you can wad up a jacket or something else, and although sometimes rather lumpy, it’s functional. But this Thermarest pillow is a great small pillow that can make your nights a lot more comfortable when sleeping on the cold, hard (and generally uneven!) ground. And let’s face it: getting a good night’s sleep is hard enough when you’re not in your own bed. This pillow is nice and soft, but not especially thick. I have the small size and it folds/rolls easily into itself making it a very small addition to a backpack that is still lightweight. The cinch-string pulls it tight taking up a minimal amount of space. It’s not exactly thick enough for those of us who like to sleep on our sides, but is an invaluable addition to your backpack or camping gear and makes the trip a lot more comfortable than sleeping on a lumpy jacket.
