This is currently my mask of choice.
I got my first C-PAP in 1997. Now in 2009 I am now on a BI-PAP. The point being that I have used a C-PAP/BI-PAP for many years, I need it, and will not even take a 30 minute nap without it.
The short version is this mask is very comfortable, easy to keep clean, easy to take on and off, keeps a great seal, and again, is very, very comfortable!
Now – for the LONG version! I will break it down in more detail, assuming that many readers are new to sleep apnea and the need for the mask every single night for the rest of their life…
Some folks may think that a mask is a mask, as long as it fits, and seals – that’s it! That’s fine for an hour, or for a night here and there, but when you are going to be wearing this every night for 5-9hrs, night after night, after night, well – you get the picture.
So, let’s break it down a bit, shall we?
The Head-Gear:
Compared to the various head-gear I have used over the years, this model is a denser material so I believe it will last longer, hold its shape longer, and will not stretch out as fast. It is also a touch wider, allowing you to have a firmer fit, with less pressure on you. It cleans up well, and it seems to dry very fast as well. – No more putting on wet head-gear!
The Mask Itself:
The mask is mostly in the usual layout. A forehead brace, a seal that goes around your nose, and a swivel connection for the hose. All high-quality materials, well designed, with many small little `extras’…
The forehead brace is nice and wide, so as to not create a pressure-point that can give some sore spots or headaches. Many of my old masks used that `gold gel’ type cushion and I found myself to get sore spots and would have to fold a tissue to put between the cushion and my forehead, but not with this one.
About the seal – some of my masks used a `stiffener’ inside the seal that was rather hard, so then if my mask was on fairly tight, it would create a pressure point on my upper lip. Plus, I always had chronic issues with air leaks near my eyes, causing excessive dryness concerns. This mask uses a `foam’ insert inside the seal! This helps to create a very firm seal, that is also very flexible – am not describing it very well, but it is the key to the mask! This is the very first mask in all these years that has *never* had air-leaks near my eyes!!
Another feature that also helps to maintain a great seal – the lower attachment points for the mask are on a `slider’. What this means is that as you turn your head while asleep, the mask does NOT pull tighter on one side, and looser on the other side!
The diffuser does not whistle, but does aim straight out, rather than down the hose – some like it that way, some do not.
In closing, I have used many different masks over the years; mostly I do not change until they stop making it, or until a better one slaps me in the face. This one slapped me in the face during a maintenance sleep study. So I changed, and have never looked back.

I have been using a CPAP for about 3 years now. The first two years I tried out many styles of mask, even the one that goes into your nose. I could not wear any of them without the ‘eye leaks’ and I would routinely take my masks off in my sleep because they were uncomfortable.
Since I have been using the 406 I don’t have to ‘fight my mask’ nightly. I do have impressions just below my nose and on the bridge of my nose, but this is not really a big problem for me since I can get a good nights sleep without pulling off my mask and freaking out my poor husband….

This is the only nasal mask that really fit and was comfortable. All the others I tried hit my upper lip. I can sleep with this mask and not have to force myself to use my CPAP. I like it, and plan to stick with this mask.
